Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 2016-P 25-cent WV WDDR-047, this Philadelphia Mint America the Beautiful Quarter features the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park reverse. The doubling manifests in a particularly architectural context: the windows in the arch above the center doorway, specifically appearing in the third and fourth windows from the left in the bottom row and in the third and fourth windows from the left in the second row from the bottom. This precise windowing description — affecting four specific apertures across two rows — reflects the detailed stonework of the John Brown's Fort structure depicted on the Harpers Ferry quarter. An obverse hub defect inside the upper R in QUARTER has been documented on multiple dies, representing a master hub anomaly rather than a die-specific marker — a feature transferred to all working hubs and dies produced from that master, making it useful for hub attribution but not individual die identification. No significant reverse markers beyond the doubling have been noted. Cross-references list no known attributions outside the Wexler system. The 2016 Harpers Ferry Quarter was designed by Thomas Hipschen and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, struck in copper-nickel clad at 5.67 grams on 24.3mm planchets. Examine the arch windows under 7x to 10x magnification, counting from left to identify the third and fourth windows in both affected rows.
