2016 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-030

Description

Assigned Wexler Variety ID 2016-P 25¢ WV WDDR-030, this Philadelphia-mint Harpers Ferry National Park quarter shows doubled die reverse characteristics within the architectural elements of the reverse design. Doubling appears in the windows of the arch above the center doorway, specifically in the fourth window from the left in the bottom row, with the effect extending slightly below that window. Obverse die markers include a die gouge right of the L in LIBERTY, another below the A in QUARTER, one left of the last R in QUARTER, a gouge above the mintmark P, a gouge near the head below the E in STATES, and a large die gouge left of the E in AMERICA. On the reverse, a long die scratch runs from the designer's initials TRH to the O in JOHN, a die gouge sits below the left side of the H in JOHN, and another appears above the third barrel. Attributed by the Wexler Team with no other known cross-references, this variety requires careful inspection of the arch windows where the spread is most visible to the unaided eye.
