Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team, the 2015 Lincoln Shield Cent WDDO-003 exhibits moderate extra thickness on the letters of LIBERTY — a strength level that places it above the light doubling common on many shield cent varieties. The obverse die marker is a short die scratch running east from just below Lincoln's lower lip, while the reverse shows a short die gouge extending from the rim above the right side of the U in UNITED. No cross-references to other attribution systems are currently known. The Lincoln Shield Cent, which replaced the Memorial Reverse in 2010 with Lyndall Bass's Union Shield design, has generated a steady stream of doubled die varieties as collectors examine modern issues with increasing scrutiny. The moderate strength of the LIBERTY doubling on WDDO-003 makes it more detectable than many contemporary varieties, and the specific die markers provide reliable confirmation once a candidate coin is identified.
