Description

Extra thickness on the letters of LIBERTY with slight extra thickness on the date characterizes this 2015-P Lincoln Shield Cent WDDO-002, a doubled die obverse with well-documented die markers on both sides. On the obverse, a short vertical die gouge is located between the front point of the bust and the rim, and fine die scratches run west-to-east through the upper letters of GOD. The reverse carries a small die chip on the top left of the shield north of the R in PLURIBUS. These markers provide collectors with reliable diagnostics for confirming attribution to this working die. The Lincoln Shield Cent, featuring Lyndall Bass's reverse design of a Union shield with a scroll bearing ONE CENT, entered its sixth year of production in 2015 with billions of cents produced annually at the Philadelphia Mint. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID: 2015 1c WDDO-002. The combination of doubling on LIBERTY and the date, along with distinctive die scratches through GOD and the vertical gouge near the bust point, gives this variety a multi-point identification profile that aids confident attribution even when individual features may appear subtle under lower magnification.
