Description

Targeting the top of the left central doorway roof on Monticello, a light southward spread identifies this 2015 Jefferson nickel as DDR-005. VarietyVista assigns it UVC-1835 and DMR-007, placing it within the growing catalog of modern nickel reverse varieties that document the ongoing production of hub doubling across recent issues. The die progressed through at least three stages: Stage A remains unconfirmed at early die state; Stage B enters early-to-mid-die state with a die gouge dot appearing above and between the AM of AMERICA along with an early-to-mid-die-state obverse; and Stage C is unconfirmed at late die state. While similar in location to other Monticello doorway doubled dies, DDR-005 is distinguished by its southward spread direction and the Stage B AM die gouge, providing collectors with clear attribution points for this particular working die.
