Description

Closely related to DDR-001, this 2015-P Jefferson Nickel DDR-002 also displays light spread to the south appearing as an extra central doorway roof on Monticello. While both varieties target the same diagnostic area, they originate from separate dies with distinct catalog assignments. Die markers for DDR-002 are UVC-1804 and DMR-003. The die progression records Stage A with both reverse and obverse in early die state, Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The recurrence of southward doorway doubling across consecutive DDR numbers suggests a systemic hubbing condition during the 2015 die production run, where multiple dies received similar misalignment during the multi-impression hubbing process. Collectors differentiating DDR-001 from DDR-002 should rely on the unique UVC and DMR codes and any die-specific markers such as scratches, gouges, or crack patterns that distinguish one die from another.
