2015-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-002

Description

Producing a distinctive extra earlobe on Lincoln's portrait, DDO-002 on the 2015-D Lincoln Shield Cent offers one of the more visually compelling doubled die obverses in the Shield series. Cataloged as UVC-3449 / DMR-003, the variety also features a die crack and chip on the shield edge of the reverse — secondary die markers that provide additional confirmation for attribution. The extra earlobe effect occurs when hub doubling displaces the ear detail enough to create a visible secondary contour, a diagnostic that experienced collectors can often spot under moderate magnification. The 2015-D was struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets in the Shield Cent series that began in 2010, featuring Lyndall Bass's union shield reverse. Attributed by VarietyVista.
