2014 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

Exhibiting very strong extra thickness on LIBERTY and the date along with light extra thickness on IN GOD WE TRUST, this 2014-P Lincoln Shield Cent WDDO-003 ranks among the more visually prominent doubled die obverses in the modern Shield Cent series. The strong doubling on LIBERTY and the date provides collectors with readily identifiable diagnostics, while the lighter doubling on IGWT adds a secondary confirmation point. Reverse die markers include a die crack and die chip north of LU in PLURIBUS on the top left edge of the shield, along with a light die crack connecting the lower E and N in CENT. No significant obverse die markers beyond the doubling itself have been noted. The Lincoln Shield Cent, introduced in 2010 following the 2009 Bicentennial series, features a Union shield on the reverse symbolizing Lincoln's preservation of the United States through the Civil War. The Class VIII designation in the CONECA system indicates tilted hub doubling, created when the working hub is tilted relative to the working die during the impression process.
