Description

The 2014-P Lincoln Shield cent DDO-002 shows extra thickness with notches on LIBERTY — the hallmark of hub doubling that pressed a secondary impression at an angular displacement from the primary, leaving letter edges with a stepped profile rather than smooth relief. Catalogued under VarietyVista codes UVC-3345 and DMR-003. Stage A (EDS) documents a dot-form die gouge under the R of LIBERTY, with the reverse also in EDS — early state markers useful for coins struck before significant die wear softened the doubling evidence. Stage B advances the obverse to EMDS; concurrently, a die chip forms on the upper left shield edge above the first U of PLURIBUS on the reverse, providing an independent reverse anchor for Stage B attribution. Stage C (LDS) is unconfirmed. The Lincoln Shield cent, introduced in 2010 on the centennial of Lincoln's birth, is struck on copper-plated zinc. DDO-002 is distinct from DDO-001, and collectors should verify the die marker combination — particularly the Stage B die chip above PLURIBUS — rather than relying solely on doubling strength, which can vary with strike quality and post-mint wear.
