Exhibiting light spread in the North direction, VDDR-015 for the 2014 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel manifests as an extra top on the central doorway roof of Monticello — Thomas Jefferson's historic Virginia estate that has appeared on the nickel reverse since Felix Schlag's original 1938 design. North-direction spread shifts the secondary image upward from the primary, and on Monticello's roofline this produces a subtle doubled edge along the top of the central doorway distinguishable from the normal single roof line. Light classification means the spread requires careful magnification to resolve, but the architectural precision of Monticello's design makes even slight displacement detectable against the straight horizontal lines.
