Description

Where its companion variety WDDR-027 shows doubling below the upper left door frame, this 2014 (P) Jefferson Nickel — attributed by Scott Holliday as Wexler Variety ID 2014-P WDDR-032 — positions its Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling below the upper right portion of the center door frame above the steps. The left-versus-right distinction is the critical separator between these two varieties, each recording a different tilted hub event from a distinct die. Class VIII doubling arises when the hub contacts the die at a slight angular tilt, and the directional difference confirms they originate from separate hubbing operations. Die markers provide independent confirmation: on the obverse, a die dot sits lower left of Jefferson's nose, while the reverse carries a die gouge at the lower right of the first L in MONTICELLO. These markers — particularly the obverse die dot — allow rapid die identification before examining the more subtle doorway doubling. The combination of positional distinction from WDDR-027 and unique die markers makes WDDR-032 a cleanly attributable variety within the 2014-P Jefferson Nickel die catalog.
