Attributed by Scott Holliday as WDDR-031 (Wexler Variety ID: 2014-P WDDR-031), this 2014 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel displays Class VIII (Tilted Hub) doubling below the upper door frame on the center door above the steps of the Monticello reverse. Tilted hub doubling occurs when the hub is angled relative to the working die during impression, producing spread that varies in magnitude across the design rather than maintaining a uniform direction. Additional die markers include a die gouge below Jefferson's right eye on the obverse and a die scratch on the right side of the first O of MONTICELLO on the reverse. Class VIII varieties are less commonly encountered than the standard directional spread classes, as they require a specific angular misalignment of the hub rather than a simple lateral shift. The doubling location — below the upper door frame above the steps — places the secondary image in the recessed central zone of the Monticello building, where the design's fine architectural lines make even subtle displacement visible under magnification.
