Description

Twenty-five documented doubled die reverses for the 2014 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel demonstrate the sustained pace of die variety discovery on modern coinage, and WDDR-025 exhibits Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling below the upper portion of the door frame on Monticello's center door above the steps. Attributed by NW PLAZA and cross-referenced under Wexler Variety ID: 2014-P WDDR-025, this variety carries authentication die markers on both sides: a small die dot above the right edge of the crossbar of the T in Liberty on the obverse, and a die chip inside the last O of MONTICELLO on the reverse. Class VIII doubling results from the hub tilting relative to the die during impression, creating a displacement pattern that radiates outward from the tilt axis with increasing magnitude.
