2014 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-012

Description

Bearing VarietyVista die markers UVC-1832 and DMR-013 across three recognized die stages, this 2014 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel doubled die reverse exhibits a very strong spread to the south from a light hubbing impression. The doubling manifests as an extra triangle at the bottom of Monticello's pediment and an additional central doorway roof — architectural features where the secondary hub impression created ghost structures adjacent to the primary design. A light hubbing occurs when the hub does not fully sink into the die before the next impression, leaving the initial application shallower than intended and making the offset more apparent in the finished die. Felix Schlag's Monticello reverse, reintroduced in 2006 after the Westward Journey interlude, continues to serve as the Jefferson Nickel's standard reverse. The building's triangular pediment and columned portico provide geometric reference points making hub doubling readily identifiable. Three die stages document progressive deterioration. The 2014 Philadelphia nickel saw routine production, yet varieties like DDR-012 demonstrate that modern minting still produces measurable hub doubling.
