Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista with attribution codes UVC-1827 and DMR-008, this 2014 Jefferson Nickel displays light southward spread manifesting as an extra left central doorway roof on the Monticello facade — a precisely localized doubling feature where the hub displacement created a ghost-like second impression of one of the building\'s architectural elements. The "Return to Monticello" design, reintroduced in 2006 after the Westward Journey series, features a revised front elevation of Jefferson\'s estate that provides detailed architectural elements particularly susceptible to revealing even subtle hub misalignment. Three documented die stages record the die\'s condition: Stage A in early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B at mid-die state showing a die crack from the lower right building extending to the rim accompanied by a small die gouge dot under the loop of the P in PLURIBUS with the obverse also at MDS, and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The die crack originating from the lower right corner of the Monticello building and propagating to the rim documents structural die failure at a design-to-field transition point where stress concentrations develop during repeated striking impacts.
