Documented by VarietyVista, the 2014 DDR-003 Jefferson Nickel exhibits medium spread to the south manifesting as an extra left central doorway roof on the Monticello reverse — a localized but visually distinctive doubling feature affecting one of the architectural details of Thomas Jefferson's historic Virginia estate. Die markers UVC-1823 / DMR-004 track three stages: Stage A at EDS featuring a small die gouge under the R of PLURIBUS and a small die gouge to the upper left of the small right window, with the obverse also at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); and Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The Stage A die gouges provide early-state attribution markers independent of the doubling itself, allowing collectors to confirm the die identity even on specimens where the hub doubling may be partially obscured by wear or toning. The extra doorway roof created by the southward hub displacement is an architecturally specific diagnostic — the central doorway's roof line on Monticello provides a clean horizontal reference against which the doubled secondary impression is readily compared. The Jefferson Nickel was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 2014, featuring Jamie Franki's updated obverse portrait introduced in 2006 and the Return to Monticello reverse. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams with a diameter of 21.21 mm, the 2014-P nickel was produced in quantities exceeding one billion pieces. The Monticello design's architectural details — doorways, windows, columns, and roof lines — have proven highly productive for detecting doubled die varieties because their straight edges and geometric forms make even moderate hub displacement immediately visible when compared against the primary impression's crisp architectural lines.
