Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 2013-P 25-cent OH WDDR-004 with no other known cross-references, this fourth doubled die reverse for the 2013 Philadelphia-mint Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial Quarter represents one of several hub doubling events identified in this Ohio-themed ATB design. The reverse depicts the 352-foot Doric column monument on South Bass Island in Lake Erie, commemorating Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's decisive naval victory during the War of 1812. Designed by Don Everhart, the monument's tall, fluted column and surrounding landscape provide vertical and diagonal design elements where hub doubling can produce visible secondary contours. The America the Beautiful Quarters program, running from 2010 through 2021, produced five new reverse designs annually, and each high-mintage design generated substantial working die populations where hub misalignment became statistically inevitable across the production run.
