2013 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-010

Description

Showing extra thickness on the date with notching on the upper left of the 2 and on the upper right of the 1, along with light notching on TY of LIBERTY, this 2013 Philadelphia Lincoln Shield Cent doubled die obverse exhibits the subtle indicators of hub misalignment during die production. The notching effect — small step-like shifts at the edges of design elements — is characteristic of certain doubling classes where the secondary impression is very close to the primary, producing thickening rather than a widely separated ghost image. Lyndall Bass's shield reverse design, introduced in 2010, pairs with Victor David Brenner's classic Lincoln portrait on the obverse. A die crack on the shield top serves as a reverse die marker for attribution. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2013 1¢ WDDO-010, this tenth documented DDO for the date reflects the ongoing examination of modern Shield Cent production.
