Description

Listed under Wexler Variety ID 2013 1¢ WDDO-009, this Lincoln Shield Cent doubled die obverse shows extra thickness on LIBERTY that is best observed on the vertical bars of the letters, with the doubling increasing in strength from left to right across the inscription. Light extra thickness is also present on the date. On the reverse, a die gouge touches the top of the banner just north of the right side of the T in CENT, providing a secondary attribution marker. The progressive strengthening of the extra thickness from left to right across LIBERTY is a distinctive characteristic that points to a slight angular component in the hub doubling — the displacement increases with distance from the pivot point. This pattern is consistent with tilted or rotational hub classes where one side of the die receives more offset than the other. The Lincoln Shield Cent (2010-present) provides clean, modern design elements that reveal extra thickness clearly, and WDDO-009 rewards collectors who examine LIBERTY systematically letter by letter under magnification.
