2013 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

Visible as extra thickness on LIBERTY, WDDO-007 on the 2013 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cent shows doubling best seen on the vertical bars of the letters, increasing in strength from left to right. This left-to-right intensification indicates the hub displacement was geometrically aligned to produce minimal spread near the L and progressively wider separation toward the Y — a gradient that helps attributors distinguish this variety from others with more uniform spread across the legend. A small die gouge appearing as a dot above the L in LIBERTY marks the obverse, while the reverse shows a die crack running along the top of the left side of the shield. The Lincoln Shield reverse, introduced in 2010, features a union shield symbolizing Lincoln's preservation of the United States, replacing the Memorial reverse that had served since 1959. The reverse die crack along the shield provides a secondary diagnostic independent of the obverse doubling. No other cross-reference attributions have been established. Cataloged by the Wexler Team.
