2013 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003
ErrorDescription
Nevada's contribution to the America the Beautiful quarter series yielded WDDR-003, a subtle doubled die reverse attributed by the Wexler Team on the 2013-P Great Basin National Park quarter. The doubling appears on the underside of the leaves (needles) north of the bottom right branch of the Bristlecone pine tree, and additional slight doubling can be found on the undersides of the tree limbs themselves. The Bristlecone pine — one of the oldest living organisms on Earth, with some specimens in Great Basin exceeding 5,000 years — served as the reverse design's central motif, and its dense needle clusters and gnarled branch structure provided the intricate organic detail where hub misalignment becomes visible. Obverse die markers include a die gouge between the U and N in UNITED and a small die gouge (appearing as a raised dot) positioned southwest of the G in GOD. No significant reverse markers were noted beyond the doubling itself. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2013-P 25c NV WDDR-003 with no other known attributions, this variety documents one of the quieter DDR listings in the ATB series — a slight doubling on botanical elements rather than the bold inscription spreads that draw the most collector attention. Philadelphia struck the Nevada ATB quarter as part of the 2013 production schedule, and the organic, naturalistic design by Ronald Sanders presented different hubbing challenges than the architectural motifs used in other ATB years. The needle and limb doubling on WDDR-003 requires careful examination under at least 10x magnification with oblique lighting to distinguish the secondary hub impression from the natural texture variations inherent in the tree's design rendering.
