2012 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001
Error
Description
Sharing the same doubled obverse die as its Position B counterpart, this Position A edge lettering example of the 2012 Benjamin Harrison Presidential Dollar WDDO-001 carries identical Class VI hub doubling that produces extra thickness on all design elements around the rim. The doubling concentrates most heavily along the right side, with clear thickening visible on the bust details. Obverse die markers remain consistent across both edge positions: a die scratch trending southwest from below the 9 in the date 1893, together with a small gouge beneath T in PRESIDENT. On the reverse, collectors will find a gouge inside the lower N of UNITED and a north-south die scratch placed midway between F of OF and the first A in AMERICA. Cataloged as CONECA 1-O-VI and attributed by the Wexler Team, this variety requires edge examination to separate from the Position B striking. The Presidential Dollar program's two-position edge lettering system effectively doubled the number of collectible die varieties for each obverse-reverse pairing.
