2012 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-011

Description

Identified on the 2012 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield cent, the WDDO-011 displays strong extra thickness on LIBERTY, with the top right of the Y considerably thicker than the top left. Notches appear on the lower left of ERTY in LIBERTY, providing a series of clear pickup points along the inscription. This uneven thickening pattern indicates the hub displacement concentrated on one side of the letter strokes. The obverse carries a small die gouge between the zero and the one in the date as an additional attribution marker. On the reverse, a pre-die crack depression runs along the top left side of the shield north of PL in PLURIBUS, documenting early-stage die failure where the metal has begun to depress before a full crack develops. Cataloged under the Wexler designation 2012 1¢ WDDO-011, this variety combines visually dramatic letter thickening with subtle die state indicators that reward close examination.
