Description

Discovered by Jean Lee, the 2010P-1DEO-002T is a trail die obverse variety found on Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cents from the first year of the Shield reverse design introduced in 2010. Trail die obverse varieties document faint secondary impressions from a previous hub remaining on the obverse working die. At Stage B with both sides at mid-die-state, no significant obverse markers have been noted. The reverse carries a die crack from the top of the shield and another die crack from the right top of the scroll. The dual reverse cracks emanating from the shield and scroll provide reliable attribution markers positioned on prominent design elements of the new reverse type. The mid-die-state condition suggests this die pair was in an intermediate production phase, where the shield design details remain crisp enough to distinguish trail die traces from normal die flow lines.

Die Markers

  • Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – none noted
  • Reverse is MDS – a die crack is seen from the top of the shield. Another die crack is seen from the right top of the scroll.
