2009P(SAC)-100DEO-001T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Heavy, short trail lines extend from the top left corners of BER in LIBERTY at an offset direction of 270 degrees on this Philadelphia Mint Sacagawea Dollar (Position B). Trail die errors result when two dies make partial unintended contact during press operation, transferring faint design impressions. Die markers at Stage A: obverse at EDS with a series of small die gouges to the right of Sacagawea's right shoulder; reverse at EDS with none noted. Stage B: obverse at MDS with a die gouge just above the horizontal bar of L in LIBERTY and another between RT of LIBERTY. Found by Steven Bernatowicz, with Stage B discovered by Tim Dale. Struck in manganese brass clad at 8.1 grams and 26.5 mm, the 2009 Native American Dollar's reverse depicts a woman planting seeds representing the Three Sisters (corn, beans, squash).
