2009 Atypical Die Clash ADC-1C-2009(EC)-02
Error
Description
Courtesy of Greg Bluemling, ADC-1C-2009(EC)-02 catalogs the second atypical die clash on the 2009 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Cent Early Childhood reverse, presenting a less pronounced clash than the 001 counterpart. Die markers include a die crack across Lincoln's forehead, vertical scratches through LIBERTY, and a crack through the lower right corner extending through the designer's initials, all observed at early die state. The Early Childhood reverse, first of four 2009 Bicentennial Lincoln Cent designs, depicts a young Lincoln reading on a log in frontier Kentucky. Atypical die clashes differ from standard clashes in that transferred elements appear in unexpected positions or exhibit characteristics not matching simple aligned die contact, often from the dies meeting at unusual angles. The forehead crack and LIBERTY scratches provide obverse diagnostics, while the lower-right crack through the designer's initials anchors identification to the peripheral zone. Cataloged by MadDieClashes, this EDS specimen documents clash evidence before significant die wear accumulated on this Bicentennial commemorative cent.
