2009 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-022

Description

WDDR-022 on the 2009 (P) District of Columbia Quarter shows a very slight rightward spread to the right of Duke Ellington's left elbow on the reverse — the primary doubling diagnostic for this Wexler attribution. Wexler Variety ID: 2009-P 25¢ DC WDDR-022. Obverse die markers: a short die crack extends from the rim right of WE, nearly forming a premature cud. The District of Columbia quarter, issued as part of the 2009 DC and US Territories program, features Ellington seated at a piano — a tribute to the jazz great who shaped the musical identity of Washington, D.C. The near-cud die crack at WE on the obverse is a strong positional marker, providing a reliable secondary confirmation beyond the slight elbow doubling. Slight-spread DDR varieties on DC quarters are documented but relatively uncommon in the Wexler files, and WDDR-022's near-cud obverse marker gives it additional interest for die-state specialists tracking crack progression on this die. Strong NE/SW die scratch right of WE TRUST. Die scratch extends NW from the upper left corner of the E in LIBERTY. Multiple die gouges between the ER in QUARTER and the D in DOLLAR. Reverse: Multiple die gouges between the O and R in FOR. Die gouge left of the bottom of the M in COLUMBIA.
