Description

Found by Louis Schaeffer, this Trail Dies-cataloged Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent shows light trail lines from all four digits of the date at an offset direction of 060 degrees, placing the trail extensions toward the upper-right of each numeral. Die markers at Stage B: obverse at LMDS with no significant additional markers; reverse at LMDS with a die chip in column and bay 1, multiple die cracks radiating from this die chip, and a split die crack in the E of ONE ending where the crack merges into the rim. The column 1 die chip serving as the origin point for radiating cracks documents a localized structural failure that propagated outward under continued striking stress. Struck in copper-plated zinc at 2.5 grams and 19.05 mm, the 2008-P represents the final year of Frank Gasparro's Memorial reverse after fifty years of continuous production from 1959 through 2008.

Die Markers

  • Stage “B”, obverse is LMDS- none noted.
  • Reverse is LMDS – a die chip has formed in column and bay 1. Multiple die cracks can be seen radiating from this die chip. There is a split die crack in the E of ONE that ends with the crack merging into the rim.
