2008P-1DEO-001T Trail Die Obverse
Error
Description
Discovered by Louis Schaeffer, the 2008P-1DEO-001T is a trail die obverse variety found on Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cents from the final year of the Memorial reverse design (1959-2008). Trail die obverse varieties are less commonly cataloged than their reverse counterparts, making this listing notable. Documented at Stage A with both the obverse and reverse at early die state, no significant obverse markers have been noted at this stage. The reverse carries a small die dot above the EN of CENT and a small die scratch next to the right side of the T in CENT. The early die state on both sides indicates this die pair was in its initial production phase, where trail die impressions are typically at their clearest before progressive die wear obscures finer details. Collectors should use the EN die dot and the T die scratch as primary attribution markers.
