Description

Cataloged as CU-25c-2007P-02R(WY), this reverse rim cud appears on the 2007 Philadelphia Wyoming State Quarter, whose design features a bucking horse and rider — the iconic bronco buster symbol that has represented Wyoming since territorial days. A rim cud is a major die break at the coin's edge where a section of the die fractured and fell away, leaving a raised featureless blob on the struck coin. The R suffix confirms the cud's location on the reverse, where it may encroach upon the bucking bronco design, the state outline, or surrounding inscriptions depending on the specific rim segment affected. Wyoming's quarter design, created by Norman E. Nemeth, captures the spirit of the Equality State — the first to grant women full voting rights in 1869. The 2007 program year also included quarters for Montana, Washington, Idaho, and Utah. As the second reverse cud for this date, mint, and design combination, CU-25c-2007P-02R(WY) demonstrates that late-program State Quarter dies experienced the same rim failure patterns observed throughout the ten-year 50 State Quarters run.
