2007 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-014
Error
Description
Attributed by the Wexler Team with Variety ID 2007-P 25c SF WY WDDR-014, this doubled die reverse appears on the 2007 Wyoming State Quarter from the Philadelphia Mint. The doubling is visible along the right side of the saddle horn and on the horse's mane below the saddle horn, elements from Norman E. Nemeth's reverse design depicting a bucking horse and rider, the iconic symbol of the Cowboy State. The obverse carries a die crack running through the upper JF of John Flanagan's initials, while the reverse shows small die gouges to the left of the bottom of the first N of NEN (likely the CHEYENNE inscription) and just below the left side of the E in NEN. This variety is cross-referenced to Crawford CDDR-004 and CONECA 8-R-VIII, providing multiple attribution pathways for collectors. The 2007-P Wyoming quarter was struck in the standard copper-nickel clad composition, weighing 5.67 grams with a 24.3 mm diameter. The State Quarters 1999-2008 series, one of the most popular and widely collected modern coinage programs in United States history, generated significant variety collecting interest due to the fifty unique reverse designs that each presented new opportunities for die varieties. Wyoming was the 44th state admitted to the Union in 1890, and its quarter was released on September 4, 2007, as the fourth issue of that year's five-state program.
