2007 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-044
Error
Description
Sharing the same diagnostic location as DDR-034 but originating from a different working die, this 2007 Wyoming State Quarter DDR-044 also exhibits strong spread under the saddle horn of the bucking horse and rider reverse. VarietyVista distinguished the two through separate catalog assignments: DDR-044 carries UVC-1836 and DMR-047, compared to DDR-034's UVC-1783 and DMR-037. Both reverse and obverse are documented at early die state in Stage A, while Stage B at mid-die state and Stage C at late die state remain unconfirmed. That two separate working dies produced strong doubling in the same saddle horn area suggests this region of Norman E. Nemeth's design was particularly susceptible to visible displacement during hubbing — possibly due to the depth of relief or the geometry of the saddle contour. Differentiating DDR-044 from DDR-034 requires close comparison of die markers beyond the primary doubling, since the spread location and intensity appear similar on both. Philadelphia struck millions of Wyoming State Quarters in 2007, and multiple strong DDR varieties concentrated in the saddle area offer cherrypickers several targets when searching uncirculated rolls and bags.
