2007 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-023

Description

Featuring medium spread on the mane under the saddle horn of the bucking bronco, the 2007 Wyoming State Quarter DDR-023 targets one of the most iconic design elements of the entire State Quarter series. Cataloged as UVC-1728 and DMR-026 in the VarietyVista system, three die stages have been identified. Stage A places both the reverse and obverse at early die state. Stage B advances to mid-die-state, developing a depression above the cowboy's hat and a die crack from the bust to the rim through the Q of QUARTER on the obverse. Stage C is an unconfirmed late die state. The saddle horn area naturally draws collector attention on the Wyoming design, and the extra mane detail created by the doubled hubbing adds material where the design is already richly detailed. The Stage B depression above the hat and the bust-to-rim crack through Q of QUARTER provide strong secondary diagnostics on both sides of the coin.
