Description

Very strong spread around the saddle horn sets DDR-021 apart as one of the most visually dramatic doubled die reverses on the 2007-P Wyoming State Quarter. Unlike the mane-tuft varieties DDR-015 and DDR-001 that target the horse's flowing hair, DDR-021 concentrates its displacement on the saddle equipment — the horn rising from the front of the saddle where the rider's grip would rest — producing a prominent doubled contour in a distinctly different zone of the design. The "very strong" classification indicates the secondary impression is separated far enough from the primary that the doubled saddle horn is discernible at lower magnification than most DDR varieties require. Cataloged as UVC-1726 with DMR-024, the variety has been documented at Stage A in early die state, with later stages unconfirmed. The Wyoming Quarter's bucking horse and rider composition places the saddle in the center of the action, and the horn's raised, isolated profile against the field makes it an ideal location for showcasing strong doubling — one of the more collector-accessible varieties in the Wyoming Quarter DDR census.
