Description

Catalogued by VarietyVista as DDR-020 under UVC-1725 and DMR-023, this 2007-P Wyoming State Quarter variety shows a light spread under the saddle horn on the reverse. The die progressed across four stages. Stage A designates both reverse and obverse as EDS. Stage B, MDS, introduces a die depression above the hat and a die crack across the front of the bust. Stage C brings heavier die damage: the depression above the hat progresses to a die break, an additional die break appears behind the tail, and a die chip forms on the front of the bust. Stage D is LDS (unconfirmed). The Wyoming State Quarter reverse, designed by Norman E. Nemeth, depicts a bucking bronco and rider. The saddle horn is a narrow projecting element where hub doubling is measurable with a loupe. Stage C specimens displaying the die break above the hat and die break behind the tail are the most definitively attributable examples. All 2007-P Wyoming quarters are struck in the standard copper-nickel clad composition used for the 50 State Quarters program.
