Description

The seventeenth doubled die reverse for the 2007 Wyoming State Quarter, DDR-017 exhibits strong spread around the outside of the saddle horn on the bucking horse and rider that dominates the reverse design. The "strong" spread classification indicates clearly visible doubling that may be detectable without high magnification — a notable characteristic given that many state quarter doubled dies show only light or medium spread. Die markers include UVC-1717 and DMR-019, with staging documented across early, mid, and late die states. This variety can also be found with a satin finish in 2007 Mint Sets. The Wyoming quarter's reverse, designed by Norman E. Nemeth, features a cowboy on a bucking bronco — inspired by the state's iconic "Bucking Horse and Rider" symbol — with the saddle horn being the prominent upward-curving projection at the front of the western saddle. The doubling around the outside of the saddle horn produces a secondary outline of this raised design element, distinguishing DDR-017 from other Wyoming doubled dies like DDR-016, which showed spread around the lower saddle horn. The Philadelphia Mint struck 320,800,000 Wyoming quarters in 2007 in copper-nickel clad at 5.67 grams. Cataloged by VarietyVista. Examine the outer edge of the saddle horn for the strong secondary outline created by the doubled die.
