2007 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team, this 2007-P Utah State Quarter features a doubled die reverse with die pitting and distinctive trail-like features. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2007-P 25-cent UT WDDR-001. Reverse die markers: die pitting near the rim above the left end of the mountains, die pitting above the front of the train engine facing to the left, trails running NNE from the top of the digits in 1896 and from the tops of some letters in CROSSROADS OF THE WEST, and a heavy die scratch running ENE from the top right T in WEST to the rim. No obverse markers noted. The Utah reverse depicts the Golden Spike ceremony at Promontory Summit, commemorating the 1869 completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. Struck in copper-nickel clad at 5.67 grams and 24.26 mm, the trails from date digits and inscription letters provide distinctive attribution diagnostics.
