IDB-10c-2007P-01 Interior Die Break
Error
Description
Cataloged by Cuds on Coins, the IDB-10c-2007P-01 documents an interior die break on the 2007 Philadelphia Roosevelt Dime. Interior die breaks occur when a section of the die face fractures away from the surrounding die steel within the design area — rather than at the rim as with cuds — creating a raised, irregular blob or island on the struck coin's surface. The broken die fragment may remain partially attached or fall away entirely, producing varying appearances from a slightly raised area to a fully formed interior break with distinct borders. Unlike rim cuds that are connected to the edge of the coin, interior die breaks appear as isolated raised features surrounded by normal design elements, making them visually distinctive and often dramatic. The 2007 Philadelphia Roosevelt Dime was produced in large quantities for circulation, and collectors should examine the design area of John R. Sinnock's classic design for any raised irregular features that don't correspond to the intended design elements.
