Description

Discovered by Bob Piazza of Florida, this Trail Dies-cataloged Lincoln Memorial Cent features a trail die obverse with extensive reverse die deterioration in the Memorial columns. Die markers at Stage B: obverse at MDS with no significant markers noted; reverse at MDS with a large die crack in column 1 extending into the cornice and field above, die cracks in columns 2 and 3 extending into the cornice, and two die chips in column 11. The concentration of cracks across columns 1, 2, and 3 on the left Memorial side documents a pattern of structural failure at vertical-to-horizontal transitions. Photos by Bob Piazza. Struck in copper-plated zinc at 2.5 grams and 19.05 mm, the 2007-P was produced in the penultimate year of Gasparro's fifty-year Memorial reverse design.

Die Markers

  • Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted.
  • Reverse is MDS – large die crack in column 1, extending into the cornice and into the field above the cornice. Die crack in column 2 and 3, with both extending into the cornice. Two die chips in column 11.
