Description

Unlike the preceding Memorial reverse varieties in this batch, the 2007 DDO-002 is a doubled die obverse affecting Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait on the 2007 Philadelphia cent. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-3362 / DMR-008, this variety displays strong extra thickness on the date numerals, Lincoln's beard, hair detail, and the word LIBERTY. Strong obverse doubling across multiple design elements — date, portrait features, and motto — indicates a substantial hub misalignment that affected nearly the entire obverse working die face. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A), the bold doubling is most evident on the sharply incised date numerals and the textured strands of Lincoln's beard and hair, where the secondary image creates visible thickening. DDO varieties on Lincoln cents tend to attract broader collector interest than DDR column varieties because the obverse portrait and date are the first elements examined when evaluating any coin. The 2007 date is the penultimate year of the Memorial cent series, adding late-series appeal to this already notable doubled die obverse.
