Description

Strong extra thickness on LIBERTY with distinctive notches on the lower left of the letters E, R, T, and Y characterizes this 2006 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent WDDO-023. The notching pattern — where doubling creates small step-like indentations along letter edges — provides a particularly diagnostic feature distinguishing this variety from other 2006 doubled die obverses with more uniform thickening. Extra thickness also appears on the lower hair and beard details of Lincoln's portrait. A die gouge right of Lincoln's chin anchors obverse die identification, while a strong die gouge above the left Memorial base on the reverse adds a cross-side confirmation point. The reverse also exhibits a wavy steps variety, where the Memorial's front steps display an undulating character rather than their normal straight horizontal lines — a secondary collectible feature independent of the obverse doubling. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2006 1c WDDO-023, this variety combines letter notching, portrait doubling, and the wavy steps reverse into a multi-feature coin.
