Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team, this 2005-P West Virginia State Quarter exhibits hub doubling on the obverse where misalignment during die production created visible doubling on design elements. Die markers on the obverse: a die gouge above the W in WE, a die crack running along the base of the bust through the designer's initials, and a die chip above the J in JF. Reverse markers: a heavy die crack running south from the bottom right of the reverse design to the rim, and another heavy die crack from west to east along the bottom right extending to the rim. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2005-P 25-cent WV WDDO-002. Struck in copper-nickel clad at 5.67 grams and 24.26 mm at the Philadelphia Mint. The heavy reverse die cracking documents substantial structural deterioration concurrent with the obverse hub doubling anomaly.
