Description
The 2005 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 2005 (P) West Virginia State Quarter, part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. Die markers: Obverse: A die gouge can be found above the W in WE. A die crack runs along the base of the bust and through the designer’s initials. A die chip can be found above the J in JF. Reverse: A heavy die crack runs south from the bottom right of the reverse design to the rim. A heavy die crack runs from west to east along the bottom right of the reverse design and then out to the rim.
