Description

Light spread on the upper left serifs of RTY in LIBERTY showing as notches, paired with light spread on the lower left of the first 0 in the date, characterizes DDO-002 on the 2004 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent. Cataloged as UVC-2488 and DMR-003, die stage B documents the obverse at mid-die-state with a die crack between the lower B and E of LIBERTY providing a precise inter-letter diagnostic. The notch-like appearance on the RTY serifs occurs where hub displacement created secondary impressions offset from the primary letter strokes, producing small angular steps at the serif terminations. The lower left spread on the first 0 of 2004 adds a date-area diagnostic complementing the legend-area notches. The die crack between BE of LIBERTY at Stage B offers a supplementary marker independent of the hub doubling. Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait, featuring the LIBERTY inscription along the right rim, provides the design framework where serif details on these capital letters display hub displacement as the characteristic notch pattern documented on this early twenty-first century Memorial Cent doubled die obverse.
