Description

Designated a "Best Of" Nickel Doubled Die Variety, this 2004-P Jefferson Nickel Keelboat design carries the primary WDDO-001 catalog position. Attributed by Gabriel Alonso, it is a Class IV Offset Hub doubled die showing spread to the NNE on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the star, the date, the designer's initials, Jefferson's eyebrow, and the hair details. Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-O-IV, FS-05-2004P-101, and CDDO-001. Obverse die markers include a die gouge north of the mintmark. Reverse markers show two die gouges below the second T of STATES. The 2004 Keelboat design was part of the Westward Journey Nickel Series commemorating the Lewis and Clark expedition, replacing Felix Schlag's original Monticello reverse for one year. The NNE spread across nearly all obverse design elements makes WDDO-001 one of the most comprehensive doubled die obverses in the modern Jefferson Nickel series. Its "Best Of" designation, triple cross-referencing across CONECA, Fivaz-Stanton, and CDDO catalogs, and primary WDDO-001 position collectively confirm its standing as the premier doubled die for the 2004-P Keelboat issue.
