Description
The 2004 (P) Iowa State Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The U.S. Mint produced 213.8 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 12 mint variants, representing only 7% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse features a one-room schoolhouse with a teacher and students planting a tree, inspired by Grant Wood's painting, with the inscription "Foundation in Education." The design celebrates Iowa's deep commitment to education. Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The 2004-D Wisconsin "Extra Leaf" varieties (High Leaf and Low Leaf) became the most famous State Quarter errors. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $4 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
