Description

Part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series, the 2004 (D) Texas State Quarter is a quarter from the Denver Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 263 million examples, making this ranked 11th of 12 mint variants by mintage, with 9% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse features a large lone star superimposed on the state outline, surrounded by a lariat rope border. The lone star represents the Republic of Texas's independent spirit, harking back to when Texas was a sovereign nation before joining the Union in 1845. Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The 2004-D Wisconsin "Extra Leaf" varieties (High Leaf and Low Leaf) became the most famous State Quarter errors.
