Description
The 2004 (P) Florida State Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The U.S. Mint produced 240.2 million examples, making this ranked 8th of 12 mint variants by mintage, with 8% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse depicts a Spanish galleon, the Space Shuttle, and Sabal palm trees, with the inscription "Gateway to Discovery." The design bridges five centuries of exploration, from Spanish conquistadors to the modern space program at Kennedy Space Center. Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The 2004-D Wisconsin "Extra Leaf" varieties (High Leaf and Low Leaf) became the most famous State Quarter errors. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $4 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
