2001-D Atypical Die Clash ADC-1C-2001D-01

Description

Discovered by Alex Tuel and cataloged as ADC-1c-2001D-01 by MadDieClashes, this 2001-D Lincoln Memorial cent presents atypical die clash marks, which occur when obverse and reverse dies collide without a planchet, leaving design impressions transferred to the opposing die in unusual locations. This specimen exhibits a triple clash, meaning the dies struck each other at least three times. As is common with multiple clash events, the alignment shifted northeastward between impacts. On the obverse, most memorial bays left at least one impression spanning across the fields and Lincoln's neck, while a remnant of the memorial base appears behind the head and across the ear. The reverse retains less pronounced traces, including a triple clash impression of Lincoln's coat, back of head, ear, and chin-to-mouth area, all corresponding spatially with the obverse clash marks. Triple-clashed Lincoln cents are uncommon, and the migrating alignment between impacts creates a layered pattern distinguishing this variety from single-clash specimens.
