Second cataloged spiked head for the 2000-P Massachusetts State Quarter, SKH-25c-2000P-02(MA) originates from a different die pair than SKH-25c-2000P-01(MA). Two documented spiked heads for a single State Quarter date-mint indicates that at least two obverse dies developed surface damage near Washington's portrait during Massachusetts quarter production at Philadelphia. Each die's gouge created a spike with its own angle and projection, and distinguishing between them requires comparison against reference photographs mapping the geometry relative to Washington's hair or bust.
