Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team, this Proof Silver 1999-S Pennsylvania State Quarter is a Class IV doubled die obverse with spread to the ESE on LIBERTY, USA, QUARTER DOLLAR, and light doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST and the S mintmark. The hub was tilted during die production, resulting in the strongest spread appearing on the left side of the obverse and decreasing as you move from left to right. Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-O-IV+VIII. The variety submitted for attribution was struck on a clad proof planchet, a notable detail for planchet composition specialists. No significant obverse or reverse die markers have been noted. The Class IV Offset Hub combined with Class VIII Tilted Hub doubling creates a distinctive spread pattern where the displacement is directional rather than uniform, concentrating the strongest doubling on LIBERTY at the obverse's left edge. The 1999-S Pennsylvania Quarter was the first San Francisco proof issue in the State Quarter series, and WDDO-001 holds the primary catalog position for this date and mint, reflecting its status as the most significant doubled die obverse documented for the issue.
